AMERICAN CAPITAL OPENS CHICAGO OFFICE
HIRES GORDON O'BRIEN AND MARK SCHINDEL AS PRINCIPALS

BETHESDA, Md. Oct. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- American Capital (Nasdaq:ACAS) announced that it has opened a Chicago office, its second new office in two months. The office will be led by Gordon O'Brien and Mark Schindel, who have joined American Capital as Principals.

Prior to joining American Capital, Gordon O'Brien was Vice President and Mark Schindel was Managing Director at Pennington Partners & Company, a private equity firm with $90 million under management. As Vice President, Mr. O'Brien was responsible for structuring private equity investments, conducting due diligence, negotiating debt agreements and managing portfolio companies. Prior to his tenure at Pennington Partners, Mr. O'Brien was an Associate at Golder, Thoma, Cressey, Rauner, Inc., a private equity firm with $700 million under management. Mr. O'Brien has participated in over $250 million of transactions including investments in the funeral home, food service, institutional pharmacy, logistics and cable and wire industries. Mr. O'Brien holds a graduate degree in business from the University of Chicago and an undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business.

As Managing Director at Pennington Partners, Mr. Schindel was responsible for negotiating and managing private equity deals in a variety of service businesses, including healthcare services, distribution, business-to-business services and food services. Prior to joining Pennington Partners, Mr. Schindel was an Associate at Golder, Thoma, Cressey, Rauner, Inc. At GTCR, Mr. Schindel completed transactions in the staffing services industry, conducted due diligence reviews for potential investments, and negotiated settlements with troubled companies. Mr. Schindel has been involved in transactions totaling over $350 million in financing. He holds a Masters in Management from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Illinois.
